5月の京都といえば葵祭！

5月1日から早くも上賀茂神社では

賀茂競馬足汰式（かもくらべうまあしぞろえしき）が開催！！

賀茂競馬(かもくらべうま)と呼ばれる5日の平安式の競馬に備え、出場する馬の年齢のほか、馬上姿勢や速度などを見て、走る順番を決めます。平安貴族風の乗尻が馬にムチを入れ、馬場を駆け抜ける様は勇壮そのもの！！

May in Kyoto is all about Aoi Festival!!

From the very begining of the month, 1st of May,

Kamigamo shrine is giving Kamikurabe-Ashizoroe-Ceremony,

in which they check the conditions of horses going in for the horse racing on May 5th. They decide the racing turns according to the age, sit, and speed. Heian noblemen whipping dashing horses on the turf should be a gallant look!!

おいしい京都のお茶 great tea in kyoto

幼少の頃から食べているものは
いつでも口にするとほっとする。
どんなに疲れていても
それだけでほっとして元気が出たりするものだ。

私にとってその中の一つが一保堂のお茶だ。
京都はお茶が有名で、宇治茶が確かに有名なのだけれど、
一保堂は京都を代表するお茶の老舗で
（たぶん宇治茶は無かったと思う・・・）
私はそこのほうじ茶と共に育った。
と言っても過言ではない。
家に帰るといつもそのお茶があってごくごく飲んだ。
小さい頃から今も変わらずうちは一保堂のお茶を飲んでいる。

一人暮らしをするようになって
ぜんぜん自分でスーパーで安いお茶を買って
普通に飲んでいたけれど、
久しぶりに実家に帰って飲んだそれは
他のものより数段味深くて、懐かしくてほっとした。

各百貨店にもお店はあるけれど
本店が二条寺町にあって
お茶もそこで出来るようになったので
この間行ってみたけど、
お店の佇まいも赴きがあってお茶もおいしく入れてくれる。
外国人向けの英語のメニューもあるので
楽しめると思います。

Something you used to eat when you are a child, It makes me relaxed anytime.
One of it is Tea of "Ippodo" for me.

Actually Tea is one of famous thing in Kyoto.
Mostly the famous tea is "Uji tea". However "Ippodo" is one of the oldest tea shop in Kyoto.
(though I don't think it is "Uji tea".)
I have grown up with "Ippodo Houji tea".
Still now always the tea is in my parents house.

After I started to live alone, started to drink cheap normal tea which can buy in super market.
but I noticed one day I came back to my parents house recently,
The tea is very tasty and make me relaxed.

You can find the shops in several big department stores.
The head shop is on "nijyo teramachi street".
also can have tea in the cafe and shop clue would make a great tea.
It is not easy to make really tasty tea.
There are English menu is available and the building is beautiful.
Must enjoy the time and tea in there.

旅行中に野菜が食べたい。 I want to vegetables during a travel.

今日も曇り。変わりやすいお天気だそうです。
またどしゃぶりの雨と雷だったり晴れたりするのでしょうか。

観光に来られた方には少し残念なお天気かもしれませんね。

旅行にプチ長期で出かけたときに困るのは
外食ばかりになること。肉類と炭水化物ばかりになりがちです。
自炊できるところがあればまだ良いですが。

そこでそろそろ野菜が食べたいよという方におすすめなのが
”ここら屋”。
御幸町通りや三条など全部で4件ありますが、
おいしいおうちごはんを出してくれます。
野菜がふんだんに使われていて、新鮮で味がやさしくて旨い。
しかもそんなに高くないのがうれしい。

あ！あと手づくりジンジャーハイを頂いたのですが
生姜の味がたっぷりしていて、すごくおいしかったです。
人におススメしたいお店がまた増えました。

I love travel. However a little problem during do it is not to eat vegetables often for me:(
so.. in this case, try to "Kokoraya".
They have freash vegetable meals and very tasty.
These shops are around Gokoumachi street.
And the cost is pretty good.
The meals are great and I want to recommend a chu-hai called "Ginger hai".
Can taste thick Ginger taste, it makes me fall in love.

Tsukemen restaurant in Kyoto

最近京都はまた寒さが戻ってきました。
春はやってきたと思ったら離れていく、なかなか気まぐれなやつです。
毎日雨と風と雷と晴と曇で変な天気です。
あたたかいものが食べたいです。。。らーめん。
基本的には俄然つけ麺よりらーめん派の私ですが
それでもおいしいと思うつけ麺屋さん”久保田”。
濃厚な汁も麺もシナチクも旨い。
終わったあと出汁で割ってスープにしてくれたり
お茶漬けと汁を混ぜてくれたりして最後まで堪能できます。
最近らーめんも始めはったようなので
食べたかったのですが昨日は売り切れてた・・残念。
河原町丸太町を上がったところにあるので、
メトロに行って少しおなかがすいたら久保田。

Cold is coming back again in Kyoto.
That's the time to eat warm something:)
I totally prefer Ra-men to Tsukemen.
However I recommend a delicious tsukemen restaurant in Kyoto.
the soup, noodle and seasoned bamboo shoots are tasty.
After eat tsukemen, can eat rice with the soup of tsukemen.
The restaurant is just 3min by walk from the crossing Kawaramachi and Marutamachi.
After go to club METRO, and if you feel a little hungry, should go.
I heard they start to provide Ra-men as well though couldn't eat yesterday.
I will go back there definitely.

Hosen-in　is a popular Tendai Buddhism temple in Ohara area. The site is well-known for "Framed Garden" (see pictures). The view of the 300 year old Sharasoju (the symbolic tree of ephemerality) and the 700 year old Goyo Pine will be a pleasant delight to the eye, while the original snack with green tea is served at guest hall. 

宝泉院は、京都・大原にある天台宗の寺院。柱と柱、敷居と鴨居を額縁と見立てた『額縁庭園』が有名。樹齢300年の『沙羅双樹』、樹齢700年の『五葉の松』を眺めながらお座敷で抹茶と茶菓子も戴ける。

京都のらーめん Ra-men in kyoto

醤油味のラーメンが好きです。
ひどくこってりしすぎず、あっさりしすぎないのが。

そばスタイルのラーメンはどうですか？
高倉通りと二条通りのぶつかるところに
ひっそりとたたずんでいる・・”高倉二条”。
濃厚な魚介ベースのスープと
そばスタイルのあっさり麺とのバランスが
こってりが苦手な私にも
スープを全部飲ませてしまいました。
口に染みわたる、かつおの出汁と魚の味、、といっても全く臭みも癖もありません。
とろりと濃厚。
とろりと言えば味付きたまごも最高。
ここよりおいしい味付きたまごは食べたことがありません。
醤油あじがしみて、黄身も白身もやわらかくて。

このあたりはおいしいご飯やさんや小さなカフェも潜んでいるんので
探索してみてください。

I know you must be crazy about Ra-men after came to japan.
So, what kind of soup do you like? thick soup? light soup?
I prefer not too much thick and not too much light. 

Have you eaten a Ra-men with soba style noodle?
"Takakura Nijyo" has it and you should try.
Actually the soup is a bit thick and seafood as a base.
However the balance with the noodle is wonderful. 
I drunk all soup though usually don't drink. 
And their "Ajitsuke tamago(tasty boiled egg with soy sauce taste) is incredible.

The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto 

is having an exhibition of Paul Klee ;D ;D ;D ;D

The exhibition focuses on how he made his works, since that was also the biggest interest in Klee's life as an artist. The Swiss painter recorded lots of atelier photographs and categorized many model works as "Special Class (Sonderklasse)" to keep by, to keep thinking of, and to pursue. This exhibition will give you various perspectives and constructive critiques of modern art, which has been totally chaotic since Marcel Duchump started a type of art named "ready-made".

Good sushi restaurant in Kyoto

外国人のお客様によく寿司のおいしい場所をたずねられる。
当ホステルは市内ど真ん中で、
回転寿司のお店とかはあるのだけれど、
おいしいお寿司やさん・・・京都でおいしいお寿司やさんを見つけるのは簡単ではないです。。。
お金を出せば多少はおいしいものが食べれるだろうけど、
お手頃価格でといわれるから困ったものです。

しかし少し電車に乗ってもかまわない。
とか今日は嵐山に行きます。
という方には是非おススメしたいのが”大漁”＠桂。駅から徒歩３分です。
東向日にもあるらしいけれど私は桂のお店しか行ったことがありません。
これが旨いのしかもお手頃価格で。。
 
2000円あればおなか一杯おいしいお寿司が食べられます。
3000円十分おなかも膨れてお酒も飲めると思います。
口の中に入れると広がるあの新鮮なネタ・・
寿司以外にも魚料理、肉料理とありますが、全部美味しい。
週末に行くと待たなくてはいけないかもしれませんが
待つ価値あり。私は完全リピーターになっています。
カウンターで食べたい。手頃で食べたい。と言われば迷いなく大漁です。

I am asked about Sushi restaurant(except for Kaiten zushi) by foreigner.
Actually It isn't easy to find a good taste and good cost Sushi restaurant in Kyoto city.
Always need to pay expensive cost if you want to good one there.

However If you don't mind to get a train for 10min from the city centre,
I really recommend a restaurant called "Tairyo" in Katsura.
That will be great when you go to Arashiyama, because you will definitely through Katsura station.

Anyway they have totally fresh sushi and several fish meal.
The cost is amazing. If you pay around 2000yen, you will be full.
I'm a repeat customer for the restaurant.

The special exhibition "La Rose de Versailles" is receiving favorable notices right on the fringe of Downtown Kyoto. The place looks like a typical Japanese elementary school but actually, it was. The renovated and remodelled prewar building now boasts the collection of 300,000 manga-related items. Kyoto International Manga Museum itself is a cultural project. It also acts as library, event hall, and research center. The place is a must for art-type visitors, especially when it's just within a walking distance from our hostel.

壬生寺は新撰組で有名ですね！！

In a word, kyogen is a Japanese traditional pantomime. It's a classical comic theater which shares the origins of noh. While most noh depicts serious and pessimistic aspects of human life, kyogen focuses on the more optimistic and comical aspects.

言ってしまえば日本のパントマイム・狂言。能と由来を同じくする狂言ですが、能が悲哀あふれるシリアスな人間生活の一面を表現しているのに対して、狂言が扱うのはどちらかといえば喜劇。前向きでコミカルな一面を描き出します。

Mibu Kyogen has started as a religious mission by Engaku Shonin. The Kamakura period clergyperson tried to teach the profound ideas of Buddhism for uneducated seculars by exaggerated gestures.

壬生狂言はもともと、鎌倉時代の仏僧・円覚上人が、大げさとも言える身振り手振りで、難解な仏の教えを分かりやすく民衆に広めようとしたのが始まりと言われています。 

30もある演目の中から、毎日5つだけ番組に選ばれ上演されます。

Depicts the fight between the Heian warlord and the monstrous ghosty spider ;-O

かもがわカフェ kamogawa cafe

今日の京都は久しぶりにいいお天気です。
今週は雨が多く気温も下がり、
せっかく今日は晴れたのに明日からはまた下り坂だそうです。
貴重な晴れの日を満喫したいですね。
散歩して鴨川くだって荒神橋まで行ってかもがわカフェでコーヒーを飲む・・
この間初めて行きましたが、コーヒーがすごく美味しいです。
空間がうまく使われていて、とてもリラックスできます。
1階はギャラリーで２階がカフェで、カフェにロフトのようなものがあって
そこは一人のお客さん限定だそうです。
今度は一人で行ってロフトで一杯頂きたいです。

It's nice day today:) should take a walk down Kamogawa.
I recommend a cafe called "Kamogawa cafe" where is around "Koujinbashi".
Their coffee is so tasty and the atmosphere is good. could be relaxed.
On the ground floor of the building has a gallery and 2nd floor is the cafe.
Also the cafe has like a loft where a space for alone customer.
I want to try there next time. should be great.

I went to Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art recently. 

As was a good day, took a walk beside of a stream near by there and found it.

The factory of "Gion Manjyu". You can buy at the entrance of factory. There were queue. They have several Japanese sweets of the season. 

As "Gion Manjyu"shop is next to "Minamiza", can also buy there too.

Personalｌy with tea of Ippodo(An old tea company in Kyoto) is wonderful combination.

 

 

この間京都市近代美術館へ行った。

いつもはそこから仁王門通りか神宮通りを通って

三条に向かうのだけれど

その時は晴れていて近くを流れる小川沿いがきれいだったので

小川をくだることにした。

そしたら行列のある小さなお店を見つけた。

”祇園饅頭”工場。

お店は南座の横にもあるのだけれど

こちらでは工場の入り口で饅頭が売られている。

桜はもうほとんど散ってしまったけれど

春なので一度は桜餅を食べなければ。

5月の子供の節句も近づいているので柏餅も置いてあった。

おはぎも何種類かあって、にっき餅もおいしそうだった。

帰って一保堂のお茶と食すおはぎと桜餅。

京都の春万歳。

京都のおいしいもの Kyoto Ramen

お手軽に京都のものを食べたいと言われると少し困る。。
豆腐？京料理？おばんざい？
どれも少し敷居の高い感じがするものばかりかもしれない。

でも最近は京町家スタイルのカフェや
京野菜を使っているお店も沢山増えてきているので
御幸町あたりをぶらぶらして見つけるのも楽しいと思う。


京都は目的地なしにぶらぶらして小さなお店を見つけるのが楽しい町だ。


そして見つけて試してほしいのが京都のらーめん。
横浜と東京に住んでいたときに京都に帰ってきたら食べたかったのが京都のらーめんだった。

バーナーで焼き豚を焼いてはります。

細すぎず太すぎない麺と濃すぎないスープ、とろり焼き豚がうまい。
いっぺん見つけて食べてみてください。

"What is Kyoto meal with good cost?" 
That is difficult question for me. because,typical Kyoto style meal is often a bit expensive.
However I want to recommend "Kyoto Ramen".

There are lots of Ramen restaurant in Kyoto.
You can find anywhere. Kyoto is an enjoyable city to find a small good shop or restaurant by a chance.

One oh my favorite Ramen restaurant is "Marutake".
The place is south of Imperial palace. Find it:)

5月の京都は葵祭！

皆さん京都の三大祭をご存知ですか？

7月の祇園祭、10月の時代祭に並んで有名なのが

5月の葵祭です！！！

見どころはもちろん15日の祭儀。東山や北山の峰々に囲まれた京都の街を、平安貴族そのままの王朝行列が堂々闊歩。総勢500余名、馬36頭、牛4頭、牛車2台、輿1台が京都御所を出発。下鴨神社、さらには上賀茂神社を目指す姿は圧巻です。京都市中、8キロにもおよぶ道のりを毎年三万を超える見物客たちが見守ります。到着の際、上下両社で行われる社頭の儀では、勅使が御祭文を奏上。御幣物、平安調を偲ばせるあずまあそび（舞人の舞）、神馬の引き回しも奉納されます。

京都に来ておいてこれは見逃せませんね！！！

“Aoi Matsuti (One of 3 biggest Festival in Kyoto)”

This is the annual festival of Shimogamo - jinja Shrine and Kamigamo - jinja Shrine. Its actual name is Kamo Festival. Along with the Gion Festival and the Jidai Matsuri (Festival of Ages), it is one of the three big festivals in Kyoto. Featured is a gorgeous parade in the style of the ancient Heian Court. Everything in the parade is adorned with the hollyhock leaf crest, also called "aoi" _ thus the name of the festival. The parade leaves the Kyoto Imperial Palace at 10:30 in the morning. The 700-meter-long parade passes Shimogamo - jinja Shrine and heads for Kamigamo - jinja Shrine Shrine.
